Blissbook can automatically sync your employees and other people from 40+ different HRIS or AD platforms. When you follow the instructions to set that up, you will see a step to "Review your data permissions" which looks like this:

This may prompt you to ask, does Blissbook really need all this data? Can I customize it? Let's answer these one at a time.

Does Blissbook need all of this data?

For the most part, yes. We have already stripped out many unnecessary fields from the standard data sync, for example gender, marital status, pay rate (salary), ssn, and more. Everything else that's currently in the list has a purpose or might have a future purpose.

Here are the most common use cases for this metadata:

  • ID & work email are used to uniquely identify employees and to communicate with them.

  • Start date is used to know if an employee is a rehire or not.

  • Manager is used to enable our automated manager escalation functionality.

  • Employment Status is used to ensure we're only syncing Active employees.

  • All other data (incl. Location data, Employment Type, FLSA status, and more) is most commonly used to personalize content (show different content for different populations of people) or to filter your reporting center to create custom reports or custom views.

  • The Blissbook support team may also use other data, in some instances, to diagnose issues with your sync.

All that said, let's mention a few sensitive examples that aren't as obvious:

  • Pay Currency/Frequency/Period: This is not an employee's salary or how much they make. We filter that out. It is the data surrounding that, such as if they're paid in USD, if they are Hourly or Salary, etc.

  • Phone Number: In the future, Blissbook may enable communication channels for you outside of email, e.g. the ability to send a text. We would need a phone number for that.

  • Personal Email: Some customers don't have a work email for all employees, and Blissbook has a way for those customers to fall back to a personal email. If your employees all have a work email address on file, we can safely turn this off for you.

  • Zip Code: Some customers may find this useful for reporting.

Can you disable Blissbook's access to any of these items?

Yes, but not until the sync is initially set up. Please proceed with the setup to get connected. After the connection is made, tell our support team what data you don't want synced, and we will turn it off. Once we do that, a new sync is performed and any of the unwanted data that was already synced is deleted.
