Hide optional content behind a Read More button

Hide case-specific or legal content behind a Read More button in a document or policy. Content stays searchable.

Written by Diane Marshall

Your handbooks and policies probably have what we'd call "case-specific" content - text (usually legal language) that most audience members don't really need to read for 90% of their time at your company. But when they need it, it has to be there. Admins can hide this content behind a button in Blissbook, and it stays available via search.

Add a Read More button

You can enable these buttons via the Read More toolbar control. If you're editing within a document, it's a button towards the right side of the editor toolbar:

If you're editing a policy in the policy library, it's a similar icon in the policy editor toolbar:

Note: You can have multiple Read More buttons within a text section or policy, but you cannot nest one Read More inside another. Some sections will not allow Read More at all - the toolbar button is greyed out and disabled in those situations.

After you add one, it looks like this in the editor:

In a policy, the red bar shown here is black. The bar is a basic representation of the Read More button - preview the document to see what the button actually looks like to audience members.

Audience member experience

In a Preview or Live document, all the content within the gray box is hidden behind the button. Audience members click the button to view that content.

All content behind Read More buttons remains searchable, and the sections automatically expand when viewers jump through their search results.

Remove a Read More button

To remove a Read More region:

  1. Click the red, black, or primary-color bar in the editor to select the Read More.

  2. In the toolbar that appears, click the depressed Wrap Read More icon to unwrap your content.

The toolbar also includes a lock button next to the Wrap icon.

Styling

You can customize the text of the Read More buttons in the Branding panel within any document. To open it, toggle your table of contents to show the branding panel using the control in the bottom left corner of the editor:

By default, Read More buttons are styled based on the document's color palette. Our team may have further customized your buttons to match your brand during implementation. If you'd like a change to the style, let our support team know and we can make it happen.

Signatures

Because the content behind a Read More button is initially hidden from audience members, they have to click a checkbox when signing their acknowledgement that says they understand this content is part of the handbook:
