This article is for admins. The name a section shows in the table of contents (its "nav title") usually matches the section's heading. If you need a different display, for example an acronym or all caps that the editor's default formatting won't allow, you can override it.
When to use this
Use the Edit Nav Title override when you want the table of contents entry to differ from the section's actual heading text, such as:
Acronyms (for example, PTO in the nav, Paid Time Off as the section heading).
All-caps display, which the default editor styling prevents.
Change the nav title
Open the document in the editor and find the text or title section you want to update.
Click the section's • • • menu and choose Edit Nav Title.
The screenshot below shows the • • • menu open on a section, with Edit Nav Title as one of the options.
A drawer opens on the left with a field for the nav title. Enter the text you want shown in the table of contents.
The drawer shows the new nav title alongside the original section heading so you can compare them.
Click All Done. The section saves automatically.
The new nav title appears in both the text section in the editor and the table of contents on the left.
Note: Republish your handbook for the updated nav title to appear for your audience.
