Add or upload a policy to your policy library

Import policies from Word, add model policies, or create a blank one, plus the permissions you need to do any of these.

Written by Tom O'Dea

Policies in Blissbook live in your policy library. You can upload policies you already have in Word, add vetted model policies, or start a new one from scratch.

Open your policy library, then click + Add Policies in the top right.

You'll see up to three options, covered below. If the button isn't there, skip to Don't see the + Add Policies button?

Upload policies from Word

Click + Add Policies, then Import Policies. Blissbook asks how your content is organized:

  • Individual Word Docs: each Word doc becomes its own policy. Select as many files as you want at once.

  • Multiple Policies from One Word Doc: split a single Word doc into many policies, using its headings to decide where each policy starts.

Click either tile to open your file browser, or drag your files onto it.

When the upload finishes, you'll see everything Blissbook found before any of it is saved. Uncheck what you don't want, fix titles and content right there, and for a split import, choose which heading level starts a new policy (Heading 2 by default). Click Import [n] policies when it looks right.

How your Word doc is formatted decides how cleanly it lands. Spending ten minutes preparing your Word doc before you import will save an hour of cleanup after.

Note: Imports accept .docx files up to 25 MB each. Blissbook can't read PDFs or older .doc files, so convert those to or save those as .docx first.

Already have the content in a Blissbook document? Convert your text sections into policies instead of importing them again.

Add model policies

Model policies are pre-written policies you can drop into your library and edit like anything you wrote yourself. If your organization has access to a model policy library, Browse Model Policies appears in the + Add Policies menu.

Search by policy name, or filter by Jurisdiction, Topic, and Applicability.

Check the box on each policy you want, then click Add X Model Policies at the bottom of the screen. To add a single one, open it and click Add this Policy next to the jurisdiction you need. The first time you add anything, Blissbook shows a legal disclaimer; click Proceed with Policy import to continue.

Model policies arrive as drafts, so you can rewrite them to sound like your company before anyone sees them.

Don't see Browse Model Policies? Model policies are enabled per organization. Contact our support team and we'll help.

Create a blank policy

Click + Add Policies, then Create a blank Policy. Blissbook creates a policy called "New Policy" and opens it with the name selected, so you can rename it and start writing right away.

Clone an existing policy

If you want to start with a policy you like and adjust from there, clone it! Open the policy, click the ••• button at the top, and choose Clone Policy.

Don't see the + Add Policies button?

Adding policies requires Create permission on your team. Team Owners have it automatically. Everyone else needs it turned on, including Publishers, Editors, and Org Admins.

Ask a Team Owner to open the Collaborators page, click your name, then click the Team dropdown. Any one of these three works:

  1. Change your role to Team Owner.

  2. Toggle Creator from OFF to ON. This adds policy and document creation on top of the role you already have.

  3. Click Customize, switch to the Policies tab, then toggle Create from OFF to ON.

For the full picture of who can do what, see Role-Based Access Control.

You can also ask any Team Owner to contact our support team and we'll do the work for you.

What happens next

New policies start as drafts in your library, so nothing reaches your audience until you're ready. Once a policy is written, embed it in a document to get it in front of your people, then publish and release it.
